Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge - 10,698 minutes in Week 1
With summer break just around the corner, summer plans and school reading lists are sure to be on everyone’s minds. Thanks to Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge, students at R.C. Buckley Elementary have been able to get a head start on their summer reading, while engaging in some friendly competition along the way.
Week 1 of the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge began on May 8, 2017. In that week alone, students at R.C. Buckley Elementary school read for a total of 10,698 minutes.
Each week, students are invited to enter their progress online. With each entry, they are able to unlock prizes such as online badges and access to games, books, and author interviews.
“It’s very motivating for the kids,” said Pamela Bryce, coordinator of Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. “We’ve been doing this for a few years now and the interest has only continued to grow. The kids love unlocking the prizes.”
The challenge will run until September 8, 2017, giving students all summer to log their minutes. To follow along with R.C. Buckley’s progress, please visit the website at www.scholastic.com/summer (code 14882). As of a few days into Week 2, R.C. Buckley Elementary School has already doubled their amount of minutes, bringing the total to 26,326 minutes.
