Lansing CSD welcomes new Business Administrator Kate Heath

Meet Kate Heath, Business Administrator

Mrs. Heath began working at Lansing CSD earlier this summer, after previous Business Administrator Mary June King announced her retirement. She is a Lansing CSD graduate who then went on to receive her B.A. in Business Administration from Ithaca College, her M.B.A. from American Intercontinental University, and C.A.S. in School District Business Leadership from SUNY Cortland. Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Heath to the district!

What are you most excited about bringing to Lansing? I am excited to bring a fresh, yet local perspective, along with my business office experience from over the years. Lansing is always the standard of excellence and I am eager to contribute to that.

Where have you worked prior to this role? How have these experiences helped prepare you for working at Lansing? My first job in education was actually at Lansing as the School Information Systems Specialist, where I worked with district data, reporting, and was also the central registrar. I then moved to the district office for a accounts payable. After this, I worked at Union Springs CSD as the district treasurer for seven years, doing accounts payable, payroll, human resources, budgeting, and more. Most recently, I worked at Monroe #1 BOCES as the purchasing supervisor and purchasing agent. My experience has included working in every position of a school business office, which gives me a unique perspective and helps me to be a resource for my staff in problem solving and trouble-shooting the issues that come up daily.

What have you enjoyed so far about Lansing? So far I have enjoyed reconnecting with previous co-workers and teachers. I am enjoying digging into the details and getting up to speed on all the aspects of the district.

Goals for the upcoming school year? I look at the first year as the time to learn as much as possible about the district, the current processes and procedures, and all the great things the budget supports here at Lansing. We do great things here for our students, and I want to know about all of them so I can do the best job supporting those efforts through the budgeting process.

Any hobbies or activities you like to do outside of work? I am married with three children. My stepdaughter is 16, my son is five and entering kindergarten in the fall, and my other daughter is just four months old. I love to read when I have time, and I make sure to make time to do something active for myself, which is usually softball, golf, or yoga.

Favorite things about coming to work each day? I love that I work on something different and engaging every day. I also enjoy all the different people I get to work with here. School hasn’t started yet, but it’s wonderful to be in the elementary building, and I am looking forward to seeing all the little guys every day. It’s a refreshing reminder of what we are working for each day.
