Over the last few years, you may have seen Matt Loveless throughout the halls of Lansing High School. Earlier this summer, Mr. Loveless stepped into the role of Athletic Director for the district. Please join us in congratulating Mr. Loveless on this new role in the district!
Prior to this role, where have you worked? How have these experiences helped prepare you for working at the Lansing CSD?
I have spent the last 15 years in Lansing High School as a Business Teacher. I’ve also coached Varsity Golf, JV Basketball, and Modified Basketball, Soccer, and Baseball throughout my time here.
What have you enjoyed so far about your time in Lansing CSD?
The relationships that have been built with students and athletes over the years are something I cherish. On a more personal note, I’ve also made some really good friends over the years here and am fortunate to have them as my colleagues too.
What are some of your goals for the upcoming school year?
I’m following a couple individuals in this role that were not only colleagues, but also close friends of mine in Stu Dean and Adam Heck. We have a tremendous Athletics program in place and a lot of that has to do with the work they have done, but also from all the assistance Tina Mallinson provides. Our community as a whole, including our partnership with the Town of Lansing Recreation Department, our coaches, parents, and most importantly, our student athletes are a big part of this too.
My primary goal for this year is to increase our communication capabilities with the public. We have set up a Twitter Account (@LCSDBobcats) for the Athletics Department and will also be transitioning to a new schedule format. More information about this will be coming out soon. These platforms will enable us to push out information in real time.
Do you have any hobbies or activities you like to do outside of work?
In my free time, I enjoy spending time on our boat or playing outside with my children. We also enjoy taking family day trips when possible. My wife Danielle is a Health/PE teacher in LHS and we have two children, Kinsley who will be entering first grade this year in Union Springs, and Braelyn, who is two years old.
What’s your favorite thing to do on weekends?
Spend time with my family - whether it is playing outside, reading books to them, or just hanging out and spending quality time. I also try to catch a football or basketball on TV, especially if the Syracuse Orange or Buffalo Bills are playing.
