Meet Mike Lockwood, Director of Informational and Instructional Technology
Mr. Lockwood began working at Lansing CSD earlier this summer. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Lockwood back to the district! He grew up in the area, graduating from the Groton Central School District. He later attended DeVry Institute of Technology, where he received a B.S. in Computer Information Systems. After ta few jobs in the IT field, he enrolled in online courses with Keller Graduate School of Management, where he received his Masters in Network and Communications Management.
Prior to this role, where have you worked? How have these experiences helped prepare you for working at the Lansing CSD?
I worked in the technology sector for Lucent Technologies after receiving my undergrad degree. I moved back to New York and started working with TST BOCES, first as a technician, then as a Network Administrator. While at TST, I was assigned to support the Lansing school district one and a half days a week. I was then hired as a Director of Technology with OCM BOCES and continued to work in Lansing in that capacity until I was promoted to Project Manager. At that time, BOCES moved me out of the district and I supported several districts in the area before landing my permanent location in Syracuse. I would like to say that all of these positions and opportunities gave me a strong foundation to do the best job I can do for the district.
What have you enjoyed so far about your time in Lansing CSD?
Working with the staff. Out of all the districts and BOCES that I have worked for, this district has the most eager staff, especially when it comes to technology. They are always willing to try new things and have been great to collaborate on projects with. I look forward to continuing that work again.
What are some of your goals for the upcoming school year?
To get reacclimated with the staff and programs. Now that I am a district employee, I feel more like a member of the staff than I did before. I would like to continue providing great service, while finding cost effective solutions to our technology needs.
Do you have any hobbies or activities you like to do outside of work?
I love sports and the outdoors. I have been active in the community as a coach for the last 15 years and my wife and I recently joined the Groton Volunteer Fire Department.
What is one of your favorite things about coming to work each day?
Getting to work with the staff, especially Adrian. I enjoy working with IT staff members that are always looking for better solutions, care about the experience
of end users, and provide a fun work environment.
If you could close your eyes and be anywhere on earth when they opened, where would you be?
Bellows Field Beach Park, Oahu awaii. There is nothing like waking up to white sand beaches, swimming with sea turtles in crystal clear water, with that sunrise and sunset every day. Can’t wait to visit again!
What’s your favorite thing to do on weekends?
Spend time with my family. Our family has a large pond on many acres and we enjoy taking our dog there and swimming, fishing, and cooking out.
