Learn more about the Lansing PTSO’s Giving Trees

Looking to give back this holiday season or help make a student’s holiday special? Lansing PTSO has a way to help, thanks to the Giving Trees.

The Giving Trees are intended to help give a happy holiday to Lansing students who may not have something under their tree. The Lansing PTSO has set up Giving Trees in both Lansing Middle School and Lansing High School. New this year, there is also a Classroom Giving Tree at R.C. Buckley Elementary School, with items teachers have identified as wish list items for their classrooms. Holiday needs for R.C. Buckley students are graciously fulfilled by the Cargill Elves and Cornell Elves programs.

Each Giving Tree has a tag on it, allowing you to select a gift to donate. There is also an option to sign-up to donate online.  Additional instructions and information can be found on the Lansing PTSO Facebook page.

The Giving Trees are a partnership with the Lansing Central School District school counselors, the Lansing PTSO, and the Lansing community. As the needs have increased over the years, Lansing CSD faculty and staff partnered with the Lansing PTSO to help meet the needs and further involve the Lansing community. The partnership began only three years ago, as a result of the LHS Guidance Office reaching out to the Lansing PTSO with a request to help spread the word about the Giving Tree. From here, the Lansing PTSO learned that the Lansing CSD faculty and staff were self-funding the gifts from the Giving Tree. The Lansing PTSO began to place the Giving Tress online to expand audience reach and meet the increased needs, by digitizing the list and placing the "tags" on social media, in the PTSO newsletter, and more - and it has been a success ever since!

While the Lansing PTSO stewards the public outreach, the Giving Trees are only made possible through the hard work of the Lansing CSD school counselors to organize and coordinate all the logistics associated with ensuring our students have a gift or two under their tree.

“Through this partnership, we have been able to meet the continued need and provide a happy holiday for all students,” said Lansing PTSO President Kristin Hopkins. “Not only are the Giving Trees fulfilling a critical need for our community, they are symbolic of what can be achieved through an effective home-school-community partnership when we all come together as a force for good. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped with the Giving Trees!”
