Warm Up Your Winter with STEAM 2019
The fourth annual Warm Up Your Winter with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) extravaganza is coming to Lansing CSD starting Feb. 1, 2019. Sponsored by the Lansing PTSO, STEAM promotes hands-on workshops, activities, and learning opportunities for the entire Lansing CSD. From school assemblies and classroom activities, to family fun nights and community events, STEAM Month has something for everyone!
R.C. Buckley Elementary School “Build the Robot” Box Tops contest: Feb. 1 - 28 - Help your grade build their robot by bringing Box Tops to school Feb. 1 - 28. In this friendly grade v. grade competition, 20 Box Tops earns a piece for your robot. The grade who builds the most complete robot by Feb. 28 will earn a silly surprise with Mrs. Whiteman in March.
LHS STEAM Day: Feb. 9 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. - All LHS students are invited to STEAM Saturday. Come socialize, eat pizza, win prizes, and participate in amazing art, science, math, engineering, and tech workshops, hosted by experts from the community, Cornell, and Ithaca College. LMS STEAM Day: Feb. 9 from 2:45 - 5 p.m. - Sign up now! - LMS students are invited to get hands-on with Mass Spectometry - What’s In There?, Working with Clay, Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions, Virtual Reality Empowered Design, and littleBits, during their STEAM event. Students will select two workshops to attend and pre-registration is required - sign up now! Following the workshops, there will be a popcorn social and live demonstrations. Lansing Day at the Johnson Art Museum Feb. 23 from 1 - 3 p.m. - Bring the family and discover how the science of art is created by blending different materials. Enjoy hands-on activities in the studio and on “touch carts” throughout all areas of the museum. Parking and admission to the museum is free.
R.C. Buckley STEAM Night: Family Coding: Feb. 28 from 6 - 8 p.m. - All R.C. Buckley families are invited to attend our first ever school wide Family Coding Night. Parents and students will be able to participate in an hour of computer programming together, as well as fun, hands-on games that explore the various aspects of coding. R.C. Buckley Math-a-thon: Feb. 25-28 - For the fourth year, all R.C. Buckley students (465 of them!) will be counting down to their STEAM Night with a school-wide math-a-thon! Each morning for four days, the whole school will drop everything and complete two minutes of math facts. Each day of the Math-a-Thon is generously sponsored by local businesses.
Lansing Observatory Night @ Fuertes Observatory, Cornell: Date TBD from 6:30-8 p.m. - Back by popular demand! Join us for stargazing from the telescope dome of the historic Fuertes Observatory on the Cornell campus. An exclusive viewing for Lansing families will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Dress appropriately for the weather, as the dome opens to the outside! Free parking is available across the street in the Appel Commons parking lot.
