Get to Know Lansing Youth Services
Lansing Youth Services (LYS) offers activities and employment assistance for teenagers in the Lansing area.
The program is a service provided by Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Tompkins County and is supported by Tompkins County Youth Services, 4-H and the town of Lansing. LYS provides a wide variety of year-round programs to middle school aged youth including afterschool activities and summer programs.
Content of the programs evolves over time and is driven by student interest. Activities include digital photography, DIY projects, outdoor cooking, wilderness survival skills and hiking. In past summers, groups have taken field trips to the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport, the National Soaring Museum and other local areas of interest.
"Lansing Youth Services provides opportunities for youth to get together for fun and engaging activities that are derived from youth interests,” said Travis Judd, Lansing program educator. “Participants get to make new friends, learn new skills, and be a part of an awesome group of people doing awesome things. If good times and good people are on your agenda, this is the place to be."
High school aged students in Lansing can also take advantage of employment services offered by LYS. Students apply and are interviewed, first by Travis Judd who will pair them up with local job openings that fit them best. LYS then provides support during the job and helps teach students the soft skills needed to excel as an employee.
