Activities and Clubs
Middle School Art Club is a place where students interested in art can come to experience art more extensively. Art club is not a drop in club. Interested students have to sign up in September. Projects include set painting for middle school plays, possible murals around the school, monthly art lessons and other small projects. Art Club members have the opportunity to go on field trips. Destinations will vary depending on cost and interest. Past field trips included local artist studios and art museums.
The Middle School Chess Club meets after school. Any student interested in learning chess, playing tournaments or simply making connections with others is welcome. Chess sets are provided.
Audition for the Middle School Drama Club!
Illusions is a literary and art magazine that is published annually. It highlights original student work created by Lansing's outstanding artists and authors in kindergarten through eighth grade. Many students worked hard on pieces and submitted wonderful entries to Illusions this year. Unfortunately we were not able to fit everything into this year's magazine. We encourage all students to keep up the excellent effort and enter a piece or two of artwork and/or written work for consideration for next year's publication.
- Library Book Club
The goals of Library Book Club are to develop literacy skills, nurture a lifelong love of reading, and perform community service. Here are some examples of the types of things members may do: Read to students at the elementary school, play games, choose books to purchase for the library, write book reviews and recommendations, create bulletin board and window displays, read, share, and discuss books. Membership is flexible and students may join at any time to participate in the activities that interest them.
- Musical Theatre Club
The Middle School Musical Theater Club produces a musical each year. Rehearsals begin in September and the performances takes place the second weekend in November.
- Odyssey of the Mind
Odyssey of the Mind has been the world’s greatest creative problem-solving program since its beginning, in 1978. What started as a project for students in a single industrial design class has grown into a world-wide program that has reached multiple generations, allowing students to learn, develop, and employ skills related to teamwork, resource management, designing and making, divergent thinking, and so much more. Odyssey of the Mind provides students with a place to learn today’s creative problem-solving skills while having fun!
