Online Subscription Databases

  • Databases are great for research and offer more reliable information than what is found on many Internet sites. The articles are usually written by professional authors and experts and are often published in reference books, encyclopedias, journals, newspapers, and magazines.
    All of the resources listed below may be accessed from any place with an Internet connection. These resources are licensed for the use of Lansing Middle School staff and students and therefore are password protected. Remote user name and password sheets are available in the library media center and will also be sent out via school email to all staff and students. 

    Use the ClassLink Single User Sign On (SSO) to access multiple databases with just one user name and password: your gmail/Google Drive user name and password! ClassLink takes you to the TST BOCES School Library System page which has many of the databases listed below. 
  • ABC-CLIO Four excellent online encyclopedias: American History, World History Ancient & Medieval Era, Daily Life Through History and Understanding Controversial Issues.
    Biography Reference Center Learn about people from all over the world and time periods in history. This database can be searched many ways. 
    BrainPOP This database is for students and teachers. It features educational cartoons on many different subjects, Q & A pages, FYI learning extensions, activities, quizzes, and learning fun. Teachers can obtain lesson plans and other materials.
    Britannica Online Encyclopedias and reference materials grouped at three levels: elementary School, middle school, and high school.
    Consumer Health Complete Information on many aspects of health and wellness. Includes articles, images, and videos from encyclopedias, books, and popular magazines.

    Earth and Space Power Knowledge resources from Rosen publishing. 
    EBSCO NYS Library Subscription - Includes many databases including: Literary Reference Center, Consumer Healtth Complete, Biography Reference Center, and EBSCO Host (Art Museum Image Gallery, & GreenFILE).
    eLibrary Access articles and images from magazines, books, newspapers, maps, TV and radio transcripts. Current and historical information is searchable by media type.
    Environmental Studies & Policy Excellent resource for research on environmental topics including: climate change, energy, environmental policy, recycloing, sustainability and more from NOVELNY. Includes informatation from books, newspapers, magazines, journals, and videos. Same user name and password as NOVELNY listed below.
    Exploring Nature Science resources and learning activities for students and teachers. Learn about plants, animals, planet earth, biomes, human body, science words, food webs, life cycles, and more.
    Gale Virtual Reference Library  Online collection of fulltext eBooks for educators and administrators accessible by index & table of contents. Numerous current titles by Robert Marzano, Alfie Kohn, and others. Topics include: effective teaching, learning, motivation, differentiating instruction, assessment, leadership, connecting standards to instruction and higher achievement. Search within mulitiple books at a time.
    History Research Center Five outstanding online encyclopedias: African-American History, American History, American Indian History, Ancient and Medieval History, Issues and Controversies, Modern World History. Includes videos from Learn 360.
    Issues and Controversies Learn what supporters and opponents believe on many current controversial issues. Political cartoons, primary source documents and other research resources are also available

    Newsbank Articles from current and historic newspapers. Find primary source documents from the late 1600s
    Noodletools Use this resource to take notes, organize information, and write reports. It can also help you create your citations. Log in using the information from the user name and password sheet. Next, create a personal ID and password for yourself so that you will have access to your work from any computer. It works like a virtual drive to store your information. It's also useful for group projects. Log into your school Google Drive to access this tool.
