Communications
*All children ride the bus to and from their scheduled stops on their regular buses, unless the school is notified ahead of time in writing of a change.
Bus Route Schedules
For estimated pick-up times, postcards will be mailed home to all families in late August. Please be aware that times may shift through the school year, as students enter and exit the school district. Also weather and traffic conditions will affect the schedule on a daily basis. Students should be ready 5 minutes before their expected pick up times. If you need additional assistance, contact the Transportation Office, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please write down your child’s bus number for easy access in case you need to communicate with the Transportation Office. Parents are also encouraged to find out the name of their child’s bus driver and write it down, since this too can facilitate clear communication.
Changes To Your Child's Bus Schedule
Please follow the information listed below to submit changes to your child's pick-up and/or drop off locations
Permanent Changes
Please submit all permanent changes in your child’s pick-up and/or drop-off locations in writing to your child’s school directly. The school will not consider a phone call to the Transportation Office, or a discussion with the bus driver adequate.
Changes For A Day
If your child has a change in pick-up and/or drop-off locations for one day in particular, as outlined in the parent/student handbook, students must submit a request in writing.
ES request must be submitted to your child's teacher
MS request must be submitted to the office in the morning
HS request must be submitted to the bus driver directly
In the morning-
Students should be ready and waiting for the bus pickup at least 5 minutes before their scheduled pickup time. If students are not out waiting by the bus pickup point, the drivers may not see them which could cause delay and confusion, especially in cases with substitute bus drivers. If a driver has to wait for students, it is not fair to the other students who are waiting for the bus as it runs off schedule. In extreme cases of weather, we may request that students wait inside until the bus arrives.
In the afternoon-
In the afternoon we request that a parent/guardian or older sibling be home and visible before we drop off elementary students. Otherwise students will be transported back to the elementary school.
*If a child needs to go to daycare provider or a different address than normal, please communicate this well in advance! Let us know if it is daily or only on specific days. We request your total cooperation in this matter which as outlined in the parent student handbook requires elementary, middle, and high school offices to have a request in writing. We will accommodate you in cases of a true emergency, but we do request you complete an emergency dismissal form at the beginning of the school year with current, up to date information.
3:15 Late Bus Runs
Late buses will run on Mondays-Fridays for the middle and high school buildings. These three routes change daily depending on ridership and cover a very large area each. These runs may not show consistency and may be longer or shorter from day to day. For more information, please contact the Transportation Office, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Please Remember & Consider
Post cards with you child's bus schedule will be sent via USPS in August preceding the start of the school year.
The times listed on your child’s bus schedule post card are approximate times. The Bus Driver may be a few minutes earlier or a few minutes later. When school opens in the fall, inconsistencies in route timings are often experienced. Fortunately, the weather during that time of the year is usually quite pleasant, and we appreciate your patience as drivers get familiar with their routes and riders. As the year progresses, the times should be more consistent. The weather, traffic, and students not riding can still however affect the timing.
HELP! MY BUS IS LATE!
A recent study suggest that most buses are late for five reason:
Traffic Delays
Weather delays/road conditions
Delays caused by waiting for children
Delays cause by substitute drivers unfamiliar with a route
Delays caused by mechanical problems
Please do not call the Transportation Office unless the bus is more than 10 minutes late. In order to shorten transportation time for students and make sure buses keep on schedule, students should wait outside at the bus stop five minutes before their bus is supposed to arrive. A one-minute delay at 20 stops adds 20 minutes onto a bus ride!
Note: In order to stay on schedule, drivers CANNOT return to pick up students who have missed their bus.
School Closings, Delays, & Early Dismissals
School closings, delayed openings and early dismissals resulting from weather conditions or other situations will be posted on the school homepage, as well on local radio and television stations. Parents will also be notified of school closing and delays via the school messenger alert system.
